Perplexity Partners with PayPal to Expand AI-First Browsing Access
Perplexity has secured a strategic partnership with PayPal and Venmo, offering eligible US and international users early access to its $200 premium tier trial. The collaboration leverages PayPal's new subscriptions hub, streamlining recurring payments while potentially exposing Perplexity's AI browser Comet to PayPal's 430 million-strong user base.
The AI-native browser Comet, launched in July, integrates generative AI tools for personalized queries, webpage summarization, and task automation. Backed by Nvidia, Perplexity positions Comet as a challenger to both Google Search and OpenAI's ChatGPT. PayPal users linking three+ subscriptions through the hub will receive $50 cashback, creating additional incentive for adoption.
This fintech-AI convergence marks PayPal's push to enhance its subscription management ecosystem while giving Perplexity a direct channel to mainstream users. The deal exemplifies how AI startups are leveraging established payment networks to bypass traditional distribution bottlenecks.
